Message*	Eyes Wide Open-Virginia available <a href="http://vpan.org/actions/?id=5183">http://vpan.org/actions/?id=5183</a> Since 2001, our nation has lost more than 5,500 U.S. servicemembers in<br /> Iraq and Afghanistan, and spent $1 trillion in operational costs for the<br /> wars combined. By many estimates, hundreds of thousands of civilians have<br /> died as a result of U.S. military activities in these two countries. Yet<br /> for many of us, these wars seem distant and their costs remote.<br /> <br /> Eyes Wide Open-Virginia is a powerful exhibit designed to promote deep<br /> reflection and dialog about the human and economic cost of war to the<br /> Commonwealth.<br /> <br /> It consists of two displays:<br /> One memorializes the Virginia soldiers who have been killed in Iraq. The other memorializes Virginia soldiers who have died in Afghanistan. The two displays can be combined into a single exhibit, or shown separately.<br /> <br /> The exhibit includes combat boots representing the soldiers from Virginia<br /> who have died, shoes symbolizing Iraqi civilian casualties, and signs with additional information about the costs of the wars. This powerful and solemn exhibit is available to community groups across the state.<br /> <br /> We invite you to consider hosting either or both displays in your<br /> community this year.<br /> <br /> We will make the display available to you and provide you with all<br /> necessary information.
